Improve the durability of your Honda Element's hatch strut mount point with RD2's HatchReinforcementPlates by RobDeezy. These plates add strength to the mount point by spreading the weight over a larger area to protect the sheet metal at the base from tearing. This is especially important for those that use upgraded struts to lift the hatch on your Element higher. Upgrade your vehicle's durability with this easy installation.

2004/2005 Honda Element lift gate strut reinforcement tie down plates

After installing these on both our 2005 and our son’s 2004 Elements, we discovered when the lift gate/hatch is shut the reinforcement plates rub on the hatch (ouch).
I tried using a 1”x4” block of wood on end and a 2-lb dead blow hammer, to try and encourage the mounting surface out and away increasing the gap. I don’t want to create another issue while trying to solve this one.
We think our solution will be to grind away some of the plate material where it rubs against the hatch (unless someone can suggest a better solution).
Observations: the added mounting holes you drill for the “nut-serts” should have been located so as not to be in the same area as the strut stud nut mount (we had to file a small amount of material, so that the nut-sert was flush on the inside);
I’m guessing it was a cost savings for this product, but providing mounting hardware would have been nice (pan-head machine screws and washers),
Then maybe manufacturing these plates out of a bit thinner material, so as to not have the rubbing issue we have.
Just our two cents worth.
We thank you for making these reinforcement plates.
